If you are new to therapy, it can seem scary. If you aren’t new to therapy, it can STILL seem scary. Trust is a big one for all of us and if you’ve been hurt in the past, it can feel like a huge risk to be this vulnerable, especially with a stranger. Therapy, when done well, can provide that sense of trust and safety that we didn’t know we needed until we finally get it. That’s when we can breath a huge sigh of relief and all kinds of healing magic happens.

Once your consultation is confirmed, I'll send you a brief questionnaire that will help guide our conversation. When we speak, please give me a general idea about the struggles you are seeking help for. This will also give you a sense for what therapy will be like if we were to work together. This is a great opportunity to address any questions you may have. If it seems like a good fit, from there we can move forward and schedule an initial appointment. 

Our Initial appointment

The first appointment is usually different from subsequent appointments. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for me to learn more about you and many other areas of your life including your background, relationships, medical history, family history, past therapy experiences, and any spiritual or religious beliefs. 

Frequency of sessions  

Therapy appointments are once a week, especially in the beginning. Sessions may be more or less frequent down the road depending on the intensity and severity of the current problem, progress made, scheduling, and other factors.

Probable length of therapy 

How long will this take? This will also depend on several factors including: the severity and complexity of the problem, how recent problems developed, the quantity and quality of social support outside of therapy, and your motivation to engage in therapeutic activities inside and outside of therapy, and possibly insurance constraints. If you have concerns regarding the length of therapy or if you have specific therapeutic goals, please discuss them with me and together we can strategize a plan to meet your needs.
